Julia has 35 years of experience as a Register Nurse and as a health care consultant. She began her nursing career in the hospital, were she practiced for over 15 years in the Emergency Department, Surgery, Orthopedic/Neuro Unit and Rehabilitation Unit. The last 20 years, Julia has focused on a career in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) environment and Physician Management. She has many years of experience working for large corporations managing and developing ASCs. As the Administrator of a free-standing ASC, she oversaw administrative duties (including day to day operations), however; as a RN, she can function in most clinical positions. She has expertise in running the ORs, CQI/PI (performance improvement), overseeing all financial aspects (including: annual budgets, cost containment, cost per procedure, and reimbursements), State and Medicare inspections, OSHA, Life Safety, accreditation process (AAAHC & JCAHO), developing Policies & Procedures, credentialing physicians and medical affiliates, hiring and evaluating staff, and handling staff, physician, and patient issues. While working as a private health care consultant, Julia worked with a team to develop ASCs in England. She consults with both Physician Owned ASCs and Hospital Joint Ventures. Julia enjoys collaborating with architects on the design of heath care facilities to ensure the design promotes productivity and efficiency and they meet local, State, Federal, OSHA, Life-Safety and AIA guidelines. Julia utilizes LEAN principals and methodology to evaluate existing facilities and Practices. These evaluations result in recommendations to improve patient care and safety, to increase their efficiencies, to eliminate waste, to cultivate teamwork and to increase revenues by decreasing expenses and increasing volume. She also has experience as a Physician Practice Administrator. Julia graduated from Mississippi University for Women in 1979 with Associate Degree in Nursing and is certified in OSHA.
